UPPC Joins PR Professionals to Celebrate 50 Years of Excellence
Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) joined public relations and communication professionals at the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) Golden Jubilee Conference in Jinja City, held from 20-24 October 2026, under the theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Professional Excellence; Shaping the Future of Public Relations.”
The conference brought together communication practitioners and industry stakeholders to reflect on five decades of public relations in Uganda and explore the profession’s evolving role in reputation management, stakeholder engagement and digital communication.
The Guest of Honour, Hon. Joyce Juliet Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, representing the President of Uganda, noted the importance of communication professionals in projecting institutional reputation and communicating developments to national and international stakeholders. She also emphasised the need for creativity and high ethical standards in advancing Uganda’s image and development agenda as enshrined in Vision 2040 and the Fourth National Development
The conference featured the launch of The State of the PR Profession in Uganda: A Desk Research-Based Point of View, prepared by Ipsos Uganda. The report highlights the need for communication professionals to demonstrate measurable organisational impact and embrace emerging technologies. It found that 74.1% of respondents believe AI enhances, rather than replaces, human professionals. Separately, Ipsos media audience data indicated that radio reaches 82% of active media users in Uganda, compared with television at 44%, the internet at 33% and newspapers at 9%.
These findings reinforce the importance of evidence-based communication, strategic media selection and demonstrating the contribution of public relations to institutional objectives.
For UPPC, participation in the conference provided an opportunity to engage with emerging trends in the profession and reflect on how strategic communication can support the Corporation’s transformation.
As Uganda’s Government Printer and Publisher of the Uganda Gazette, UPPC plays a critical role in supporting official government communication and access to public information. Effectively communicating this mandate, alongside the Corporation’s evolving services, is essential to strengthening stakeholder awareness, public confidence and institutional reputation.
Initiatives such as the digitisation of historical Uganda Gazettes, the E-Gazette and the UPPC Service Portal demonstrate the Corporation’s commitment to modernising government printing and publishing. Strategic communication helps ensure that stakeholders understand these developments, access available services and appreciate the value they deliver.
The conference also reinforced the importance of positioning public relations as a strategic management function. For UPPC, this means moving beyond publicising activities to measuring communication outcomes, strengthening stakeholder relationships and ensuring that institutional progress is effectively communicated.
As UPPC continues to modernise its printing and publishing services, strategic communication will remain vital in connecting its transformation to public value. By strengthening stakeholder engagement and communicating its innovations effectively, the Corporation aims to enhance public awareness of its services, build trust and reinforce its role in supporting access to official government information.
